Welcome to Bride on a Budget

Okay, so you're getting married.

Did you know that the average wedding costs £10,000?

Unless you're a footballer's wife, I bet this cost is a bit scarey for you.

But, with some imagination, and a bit of shopping around, you can have a fantastic wedding without all the expense.

This blog is here to help.

I've gathered some good tips and ideas which I want to share to help you.

I won't say it's not a challenge - but I can say that its much more interesting.

The Dress

If your first reaction is - where do I start? Here are my top tips:

1. Buy wedding magazines to get ideas- some of the better ones are

Scottish Wedding Directory
Perfect Wedding
Brides

2. Visit a bridal shop and try on different styles. The style you think suits you will probably make you look like a blamange.

If you are petite - don't get carried away with big dresses. Think elegant, think less fussy and you don't always have to listen to the salesperson.

One of the most helpful shop I visited in Glasgow was Bridal Path behind St Enoch Square. The assistant was lovely and although I didn't see any dresses that I wanted, I got some good ideas about the style that suited me.

3. Look online. You'd be amazed at what you can see online. Buying online may not be ideal because you can't try things on. But you may have tried something on in a shop that you find is half the price online.
